1996 Dodge Ram 1500 - stalling
I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500, 4WD with a 5.2, 170K miles that I recently bought used. The truck stalls intermittently at operating temperature in gear when stopped at a stop sign or light for example. I have brought it to my mechanic and to the dealer and have had the following work done.
The former owner of the truck (who by the way said it never did this when he owned it) claims to have done the following work: new transmission, torque convertor, crank sensor, new pick ups in the distributor, new injectors, new cap, rotor, plugs, wires , coil, new gas tank with fuel pump and lines all the way up.
My mechanic went over the truck and found nothing major, only replaced the intake gaskets, and throttle position sensor. The alternator and battery was tested.
The Dodge dealer went over the truck and replaced the idol speed motor, O2 sensor, and updated the computer.
I work at a body shop so had access to a computer out of a 200 Dodge Durango and after having all the work above done, and the truck still stalling, I decided to try to Durango computer. The truck does not stall and the motor does not chatter at 3500RPM like it had been doing, however, the trans temp light and the overdrive light on the dash came on. The tachometer stopped working with the Durango computer, and the truck is not shifting as smooth as it had been. So I bought a new/used computer for the year make and model of my truck, received it and installed it today and the truck is still having the problem and stalling. I put the Durango computer back in and it does not stall. So I am at a loss. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
