Default Power loss

I have a 98 dodge ram 1500 5.2. I have little to know power on starting off in two wheel drive. If I put it in 4L I have a ton of power, and great take off speed. Any ideas?

What size tires? What gears? Any engine mods? Fixed the plenum? Still got your original cat? How many miles on it? Getting any engine/trans codes??
