Default oil pressure problems

1997 Ram 1500, My Ram 1500 4wd has a gauge and a light, the gauge shows 40 psi and the light comes on? Could the oil pressure switch be the problem?

Looks like oil pressure questions are the new Plenum and Ball Joint questions for the week.
