code 740. HELP!
1997 dodge in sig. 173k on her. getting code 740 still after replacing tps (bwd from oreillys) Replaced fluid, filter, governor pressure solenoid, tcc solenoid and wired a tcc manual switch up to try and ground wire b11 orange with black trace. I get no converter lockup on command. i ran a jumper wire and grounded it to the seat frame while driving and still nothing. It locks sometimes going up hills, or before replacing tps, it would cycle in and out of lockup on the highway. Im at a loss at this point. Should I be looking for a short to ground on the wire from the pcm to the trans? any help is appreciated.

I spliced into it with a wire tap and ran it in the truck, grounded to the seat frame, no change in rpm. When the converter decides itsgoing to lock sometimes (going up a hill) you can tell because if you tap the gas there's no 200 rpm jump. It's only at speeds around 45-60 where it will not lock, then on flat highway, you can tap the brakes and usually there's no rpm change so i verified its not even tring to lock up. on my way to work this morning, i tried holding up on the brake pedal because of the switch that releases the convertor on application of brakes. No real change either. Also, the black plastic on connector at trans was broken, so i pinned the wires directly to the ones coming from the tcc harness out of the trans, still no change.tcc is new.

I would suspect either a bad solenoid, or, failing torque converter then. (wouldn't be the first time I got a bad part, right out of the box.) If it was doing the same thing before the solenoid replacement.... I suspect your t/c is bad.
When you had the pan off, did you find anything untoward in the pan?

Nothing more than the usual clutch material on the magnet. a few chunks of what looked to be pieces of metal on it as well. Also a few months ago the truck was shifting into 2nd gear and staying there if you gave it any more than 1/3 throttle. Replacing the governor pressure solenoid that the screen was clogged with the same hunks of metal took care of that. Any opinions on dacco convertors? We use them at the ford dealership i work at for customer pay jobs, so that's probably the brand ill go with.
also nothing changed when i replaced the solenoid the first time.

I don't think much of the 80 dollar replacement converters. (dealer markup notwithstanding....) If there were metal shavings in the pan..... enough to clog the solenoid, you may have more issues than just the t/c. You may be able to replace it, and get away with it for a while, but, it is a gamble.

Update. pulled trans two days ago. Replaced front pump and converter with one from trans star. reset the front drum/band anchor in correct and put it all back together. Now my truck acts like it has a misfire. Starts in second gear and slips and jerks. I also should mention that the connector on the 8 pin plug is broken on the trans and i have all of the pins pinned directly together. Starts in second gear and shifts to third. Could it be the tv cable?
