Default Update.

BWD from O'reilly auto. is the crank sensor. As far as the coil. This is the second new one. When this all started, my first instinct was coil. Changed it out, started right up. Didn't drive truck for a week. Drove it to town, won't restart again. Went back to O'reilly to exchange coil, reistalled, didn't start just cranks. Went back to O'reilly and got a new coil wire, still no start. Had it towed home, started right up. So I figured the first time I changed the coil, it took some time to cuss and wonder what to do (cooling off while this was going on) Started right up. The second coil change didn't take very long (still warm). Towed home 15 miles (cooled off again) started right up

I don't think the coil is the issue then.

If you have a volt/ohm meter, could you test the crank sensor (measure resistance across the three wires, procedure is in the service manual.) and see if it is failing when hot? It it tests ok, and the truck still won't start.... that leaves the PCM.

Default Final update

Installed new fuel pump. That was not it. The cam position sensor was the problem.

Yes you need a signal from both the crank and cam sensor or no spark.

By the third post I knew it was likely to be the camshaft position sensor.
Sometimes they throw a code, sometimes they don't. Mine threw a code.
The parts store people that know nothing about vehicles don't know what a camshaft position sensor is. In their computer it is listed as a pick up coil.
