Default Code Scanning Tool

Any recommendation on a Service Engine Soon code scanner? There does not seem to be any way to retrieve the engine codes without one. I am looking for something that will help me identify problems and clear any stored codes as well. Thoughts?

Thanks!

Any obd2 scanner will work. Even cheap ones from eBay or Amazon will read and clear codes. More expensive ones allow real time scanning of sensor information. Depends on your budget. I have a cheap one (cost like $20) plus a more expensive Actron one that allows me to see what the computer sees in real time.

I always used my Superchips tuner, but sold it shortly after selling my '04 Ram. I didn't want to be without one owning a new diesel with all the emission crap and codes they can generate. I currently use an Autel Maxiscan. Reads and clears codes for under $20 on Amazon.
