Default Loss of power in "drive"

Hey all, any help on this would be awesome! My 96 dodge 1500 has been driving funny the last couple of days after pulling my trailer up the canyon. I will put it in "D" and it feels sluggish, and it is revving higher than normal to get the same amount of power. If I manually switch into 1st gear then to 2nd and then to drive, it doesn't do it. I also noticed a burning rubber smell yesterday but I have no idea if it's related to the issue . I know these symptoms are a little vague but any help is welcome at this point.

I could be wrong, but, sounds like one of your brakes are stuck or dragging, next time you go for a drive check to see how hot each of your wheels are, this should narrow it down to which one is sticking..

I don't think it would be the brakes, I've checked all the wheels and none of them are any different, I'm leaning toward something like the tranny, or something that would be connected to it, it's kind of shifting hard lately.

Pulled the tranny dipstick and smelled it and checked the color by chance?

Change the fluid and filter in the trans. See if things don't improve.

Adjusting the bands wouldn't be a bad idea either. Install a good trans cooler is another.
