I have replaced my steering gearbox and have a cooler. I can't seem to get the air out or something. How many times would I have to turn the wheel. It seems to move freely til I put it on the ground then after a short while it starts to bind up til I accelerate a little.
My Chilton's said something like 30 times lock to lock with the wheels raised. I don't remember exactly. Sounds like you got a bad box. What brand did you get? If you don't say "Redhead" or "Borgeson" then that's your problem, buddy. Others might suggest the pump but if it worked good before, then you can rule that out.
Probably have to do it several times, to get the air out. You can look at the fluid after you shut down the engine, and if it is still frothy, let it sit for 30 minutes, to let the air work its way out, and try it again. Keep doing that till the fluid no longer gets frothy.
