Swapping warn 360 magnum for 318 w/ low miles
Exactly what will I need for a swap? I have a 5.9 magnum in my 98 ram sport short box, it's gots over 220,000 miles and burns oil bad. I know a guy with a 318 with less then 79xxx miles for $200. He has everything for it, plugs wires absolutely all the wiring for this installation. Will this be a drop in swap or will I hit some things that'll stop me?

What year truck is the 318 out of? If the years are different, you might need to change out your intake manifold, seems like some years have an additional coolant sensor on the front of the intake. Could just compare the 2 as well. You'd also have to get your pcm flashed for the 5.2 instead of the 5.9.

I think you would need to get it flashed. The PCM is expecting a 360 cube engine, but it's really a 318, it's going to be injecting more fuel than needed into the cylinders and the PCM might not know what to think since a 318's crankshaft stroke is .27" shorter than the 360.
Best bet is to flash the PCM with a tune from HemiFever or FlyinRyan.

The 97 harness is different than your 98, and the 97 PCM doesn't have some functions that your 98 PCM has. The older wiring simply will not work in your truck. Just drop the motor in, and hook it up. It will have an extra, one-wire coolant temp sensor that you won't have a wire for, but, that's ok. The 98's didn't use it anyway. Everything else is pretty much the same.
