Unhappy Engine Pulley Alignment

Hello everyone,

I am sure that this has been answered, but I checked the FAQs Section and did a search and although I see the subject touched on I didn't see anything that really tells me how to do a pulley alignment. I am going to replace my tensioner pulley and idler pulley as I was told by a mechanic they are bad. However, my belt is being shredded and if I hold a straight edge to different pulleys they look off. So my question is, if once I replace them and they are still out of alignment what is the best way to get them in alignment? Are there adjustment screws or spacers to make them aligned?

No adjustments available. You can kinda/sorta move the power steering pulley in/out a bit, with the proper tool. (and taking a bunch of stuff out of the way.) However, if you have two bad pulleys...... Replace those, and then recheck alignment, and see if things aren't any better.

Welcome to DF!

Ok, I will give that a try first. Hopefully, replacing them fixes the problem.

One more question. Should the tensioner pulley be able to spin freely and easily? With the belt off, if I spin the pulley it will make one rotation and then stop.

That's bad.

Yes, it should spin fairly easily.
