No part of the exhaust system has ever been replaced, and I have no codes. Truck runs great, but is noisy with this c/c issue. Please advise on my options...
As someone who just picked their truck up from the exhaust shop today, pay the money to get it done. My cat was clogged and it only became worse and worse from when I first noticed issues. If the honeycombs inside are broken, you don't want to be driving and the honeycomb bounces around enough to get sideways and completely block exhaust from exiting. This would be a bad day. I just had everything mandrel bent/welded for 700, cat back to dual tips out the side behind the tires.
Ignore the screwed up bumper lol

I was thinking bad price! My whole custom cat-back with Deltaflow 50 and 4" SS side exit duals was only $250 back in 2006. For $700 I'll just order the Flowmaster American Thunder kit and put it in myself... looks real good though alaskaguy.

I got everything including a magnaflow high flow cat, flow master super 40, 3 inch piping for the entire thing, with stainless tips out the sides. All mandrel bent.

I like to think I was the reason that recall happened..

dealer gave me a hard time while i was still covered under the emissions warranty on my 97 ram sport because I had a cat back system installed
even though the cat was clearly rattling with broken internals and needed replacement

when I got home from dealer I was so pissed off I wrote 7 e-mail letters to the EPA regarding the defective broken cats and included what must have been 150 different user links to threads regarding cat issues and people gutting them because they couldn't afford the $600+ price tag of the factory replacement..

not even 45 days later the recall was announced, don't know why that linked page doesn't have the 97 rams listed but both my brother and I owned 97 ram sports and WE BOTH got recall notices.. since we had paid out of pocket to replace them we sent receipts off to Chrysler and they sent us each a check for the cost of the repair

Yeah, I got a letter in early 2000s but mine lasted until over 100k before it rattled in 2009.

I guess $700 isn't too bad with new cat, et al.
