I went with Delphi on mine. Works great!

Don't get a cheap knockoff pump!

I have had not one but two Delphi's fail in my truck, the factory one then a replacement one just recently so I don't care for them. I replaced with cheapest thing on rockauto @ $60, brand "Ratech". Good reviews, US made. Just do your homework, with QC these days any brand is pretty well as good as another IMO.

One thing I like to do is keep the old one. You can usually figure out what went wrong with it pretty easily (regulator, pump, wire broken, etc) and then keep it on the shelf as a spare after you fix it.
I think I fixed my OE pump with about 30 bucks for a new regulator and fixed a wiring connection. If the pump dies again, I have one on hand.

Is the preferred method to do this by removing the bed?

Drop the tank, or remove the bed. I think its more personal preference than anything else. If you have a full tank, then pulling the bed might be safer.

Side Note: Isn't it typical of fuel pumps to fail right AFTER you fill the tank?
