Yeah, the environmentalists hit around here too. There used to be a variety of places where you could go off-road, camp where you wanted, and basically give your rig a nice workout. It wasn't even really environmentally UNfriendly. Fire roads, and such. (some of them barely qualified as 'roads' though..... two-tracks thru the woods.....) In the last 20 years or so, 90% of them have been closed to ANY vehicle traffic. Even quads, or dirt bikes.

I think the 44 will be fine for ya.

 

took a little break from working on the truck... decided the panel on the overhead console where the digital display would go is the perfect place for switches. i included some pics...

 

also pulled the cover on the rear end. the differential is one giant weld. no hope of removing the crosspin. i would try cutting it out, but it would take days and alot of money in gas and cutters... anyone know where to get a set [same lug pattern] of good axles d60/d60 or 60/70? at this point i think it would be cheaper, better and far easier.

 

Where are you at? I have a 96 3/4 ton (D60's front and rear) that I am trying to sell. If you aren't too far away, you could drive it home. Probably would cost about the same as buying a pair of axles.

There are a few freight shipping suggestions here http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/gener...ship-axle.html, Forward Air seems to be decent and cheap-ish.

You could also check car-part.com, I looked and there are a few within 100 miles of Vancouver, you just have to check multiple years.

 

i work in air freight. i've unloaded forward air trailers for years. they are THE cheapest [corporate rates $0.20 lb]. town air was their closest competitor and they bought them. i could see shipping axles with them if well packaged, but i could tell you many horror stories.

we used to laugh when they arrived at our shop, our shipment of fail has arrived. forkholes, collapsed crates, tv's with forklift tire tracks and glass falling out, they actually invented the curved tv! i saw 3 of them before samsung made one that was supposed to be curved and actually worked.

to save time i always wrote down the stuff that didn't appear damaged, rather than spend hours writing up damaged.

how do they get away with it? they're the only company that does what they do. we lost several accounts due to damages from them. just in time manufacturers cant absorb the damage rate regardless of insurance. their customers need the parts "just in time" in one piece. /rant

though to be fair, the workers bust their ***. good people, bad policies. too much volume, too few workers.


i'm checking car-part. there's also a dude selling a set of d60's from a 98 2500 for $1k, hoping to hear back from him.

 

So in other words, if you're going to use Forward Air then your crate needs to be bomb proof.

Do the $1k axles you're looking at have 4.10 gears in them?
