I don't know much about GM's, barely know much about dodges.

Kinda off topic but somewhat related: I got a 1999 V10 ram 2500 4.10 gears, 8.2mm wires, plugs, otherwise stock...now would I be able to beat my friends 1999 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 5.7 vortec (cold air induction, dual flowmaster system)??? Gonna be racing him over christmas break since we're both away at college, I'm willing to bet him 100 bucks that mine would beat his in the quarter mile run and be nice to get a heads up hehehe.

wow this is an old post.......one i started back in january. Anyways GM for 1996 retuned the 5.7, which is when they got a power, torque, and refinement boost. Also i know that my friends 96 i mentioned at the start of this post is quicker than mine, but that's about all it is...
what do you mean returned the 5.7 in 1996? as in they refined them? cuz i had friends with a 90 and 93 and my step dad has a 95 and all are 350's
sure they are all the 350, but in 1996 the 350 was retuned, check online anywhere you'll find GM retuned the 5.7 motor in 1996 to give it more torque and horsepower. Also it was much smoother in 1996-1998 and above than 1995 and prior 350 motors.

Wtf? Racing trucks? How gay. Get a sportscar.

btw, I own a magnum ext cab with dual exhaust and I used to own a 5.3l vortec ext cab with dual exhaust and even that 5.3l would have smoked my magnum so no doubt the 5.7l would.

theres nothing wrong with racing trucks.. theres diesels out there running 12's.. the fastest cummins in the world is in the 10's! thats whoring the hell out of vettes, camaros, vipers ect. i know when i get a diesel will be racing that thing and hopefully putting it in the 12's its just badass seeing a 7,000+ lb truck beat little cars. also.. 5.7 vortec's are way better then magnums will ever be.. on the other hand the 5.7 hemi is way better then the 5.7 vortec.. magnum motors just dont put out enough power and torque to keep up with the newer vortecs.. if you want to beat 1.. get a diesel or hemi ram

Racing trucks is like having sex with a pie. Ya sure it'll work, but why not just find a nice girl instead? If you want to go fast get a vehicle made to go fast. Likewise, if you want to haul/tow stuff don't get a corvette.

Well I want to go fast and pull a load ,push snow and go through 2 foot of mud or snow .That's why I own a TRUCK and it's a dodge . Racing in a truck is heck of lot of fun . Anybody can race on bikes or cars ,but to race a truck that has bumpers higher than most cars trunk lids takes skill.

Trucks are for hauling cargo, not hauling ***.
Incorrect, my truck does both! It also hauls horses, offroad trucks and even gets 17 mpg steadily!

My friend has a 97 Chevy ext cab 2wd with a 5.7 Vortec with headers and a glasspack, he stomps the crap out of my truck. I have a 97 ram sport ext cab 4x4 with a 360 and straight pipe w/factory cat. One reason chevys are faster is their tranny gearing, these are the ratios for a GM 4L60-E transmission and a standard 3.73 gear set and a 46RE dodge trans with my factory 3.50 rear gear set.

4L60-E
1st-3.059
2nd-1.625
3rd-1.000
4th-0.696
RearAxle:3.73

46RE
1st-2.45
2nd-1.45
3rd-1.00
4th-0.69
RearAxle-3.50

That and my truck is WAY heavier than his, and i have 32s and hes got 275/65/16 tires on lighter aluminum wheels.
