Broken Axle Shaft Stuck In Spider Gear
1999 2500 5.9L Cummins Automatic, everything stock. In need of some help, so Front driver side axle snapped just distal to the splines, due to the way it snapped it shoved the broken end hard into the spider gear. Anyway I am unable to remove the 5 inches of broken shaft from the spider gear. I am able to remove the shaft on the other side and spider gears without a problem, just stuck on drivers side spider gear. Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Pull the other axle and then remove the spider gears, or once you remove the cross shaft, you could put a socket between the axle shafts and give it a tap with a mall after putting the nut on the stub shaft. Once you take the other axle shaft out, the carrier would probably come out also as long as the broken piece isn't very long. I'd try taking the spider gears out first if it was me.

The pipe was much better, I just didn't know what you could afford or had access to. I was certain you'd need to check for more damage. LOL. I'm glad you got it out. There's a seal for the axle shaft that I assume got destroyed. You'll need to remove the carrier to change it.
