Default Grease Fittings?

Well I got out the old grease gun today to grease the front end on my 01 1500 Off Road, and there's only one regular grease fitting under there. All the other 6 or so boots don't have the regular grease fittings, they've got what looks like around a 1/2" nut with a threaded base. What's that... a weird fitting, or maybe a sealed boot? Whatever it is, it needs grease bad. The boots are empty, dry, and starting to crack. Thanks in advance for the help.

This is typical of Dodge trucks. Not many serviceable parts underneath. I just a few months ago spent $1500.00 to replace all four ball joints, tierod ends, and tracbar. Plus and alignment after all that was done. If you eventually replace any of those parts and you will if you keep the truck long enough make sure the replacement parts have the zerk fittings on them so that they can be serviced.

I just installed zerk fittings on everything I could under there on my truck. For about $3 I was able to get enough fittings for everything. Worked well so far.

How did you install them? Did you have to drill and tap the bottoms of the rod ends, etc for the grease fittings or what?

That is exactly what i did. Except i used the press in fittings instead of the threaded ones. There is not enough material to run threads, so i went with the press ins. They have worked very well so far.

So far short of the U-Joint, I have replaced with parts that have grease fittings. I chose the sealed u joint because I have had both and they last about the same amount of time

I just drill a hole and use self tapping zerks in everything including the lower pivots on the sway bar links.
