Ok, I have had my Ram for almost 3 months and it's almost time for an oil change. I do not have an owner's manual for the truck, so I need someone to tell me how much oil this thing holds. It is the 5.9L. I can just look up the oil filter, so that's no problem. I am planning to use Lucas motor oil in it, because my Grandpa swears by the stuff and has used it in all his vehicles (which were all Dodge/Chrysler) and it seems to be a very good product. I just need two bits of info:
1. How much oil does the engine hold?
2. What is a good weight to usein it? (10/40?)
Sorry if this is a repost, and thanks for your assistance.

5 qts including filter ... add a little oil in the filter so you wont have a dry start..dont need to do it just a little insurance and learn as much as you can from grandpa and this forum..
10/40 is a good weight...check your oil filler cap and see what it says..
5 quarts...and I use 10W30...don't know where you live, but I have seen charts that show 10W30 to be the oil to use with the largest span in temperature ranges.
Awesome, thanks guys. I was browsing through the forum and found some old posts about oil filters, so I still haven't decided which oil filter to go with yet. I think I may go with STP or Fram...we'll see. I have always used Fram in the past, but I may change it up with the Dodge. I also don't know whether the previous owner used full or semi synth oil, so I am planning to use the Lucas 10W40 Semi-Synth in it.
Here's a question for all the guys in here:
What do you all think about this Mobil 1 5K or 7K oil and filter? Is that really a good move to leave the oil in there that long? I have always heard all the older guys say that the life of an engine comes from good tune-ups and changing the oil every 3K. Maybe they are speaking on the grounds of non-synth oil...

I am in Utah right now, and will be for the next 7 months or so... It is going into winter, so I need a good weight for cold weather. Definitely 10W30 or 10W40... I'll see what the oil cap says, if anything...

If your thinking about switching to Synthetic motor oil it would be a good idea to unscrew your oil filler cap and check for build-up. Just visually inspect, then scrape the inside of the valve cover with your finger. If you have alot of build-up I'd suggest not going to synthetic.
BTW I run 10W30 Mobil 1

I suggest WIX filters, when I use fram filters mine always has a quick lifter noise when it starts, with the wix it doesnt... Ive also herd wix to be the best of the best...
... haha Does anyone know for wix if you say WIX, or W.I.X??? Ive always wondered that... I usally say WIX.
