The heads aren't quite as prone to cracking as the dashboards are, but it does seem to be a fairly common occurance with these trucks. He's not making that up.
Also it's pretty common knowledge that heads and cams are the real power upgrades. You don't have to say it in every post you make on this forum. Not everyone here is some kind of retard.Silver was just being nice enough to post a DIY writeup since he was doing it anyway. A few ponies here and a few more there eventually add up to something.
Also if you're going to try to bore out the stock heads I'd suggest you get a set from a junkyard to work on. No point in screwing up the only ones you have.
if the heads were a serious issue, the MFG would issue a recall, or put out a service report about it. there is no evidence of this, which means they are isolated occurances.
the reason why i post the about cams and heads is because all this baby stuff doesn't get you anywhere. just don't expect to get far with the little 1 or 2 hp changes you are doing to your trucks.
BOREOUT heads? thats a new one on me. getting junkyard heads is a decent money saving idea, but if someone is so confident and comfortable with"improving" their intake, why wouldnt they try to do the same thing with their cylinder heads?
it sounds like you guys are scared to touch heads and cams. that's why you all do the IEC deal. (intake, exhaust, chip) until you start investing that same money in improving your cylinder heads, or grabbing a nice set of aftermarket heads, and installing an aftermarket camshaft, you won't get far from the factory gates.
You don't see a recall on 46 re-transmissions...

And he wasn't confident enough to cut up his stock intake, that's why he bought an extra one to experiment on. I don't recall him saying it would make the truck run a 9 second quarter mile or anything. He was doing it through so he might as well have made a write up on it so a hundred other people don't start threads about this. All they have to do is look here.

Intakes are inexpensive, so that's the reason alot of us switch those out. Mufflers are cheap too. If younoticed most of the guys on here don't sink alot of money into they're exhaust. They just run a cheap catback system.

well some engine upgrades will give u better gas mileage. a larger (to a certain extent) cam will give u better mileage because you will be in the throttle less. granted, wwith that extra power, the tendency for flooring it increases...

if your still thinking of running any of those cam profiles we were talking about a while back I would. The 5.2 revs a little quicker so it helps put you up in the m1s prime opperating range quicker. IDEALY youd want to put a higher stall in there as well, but you dont have to.
Yeah it kills me. There's probably at least one new topic a day about gas mileage, and they're all the same.

Than much is always about the same then... there's a couple of optional endings...

b.) "Will a K&N cold air intake get me better gas mileage"
c.) "The truck is lifted6 inches with35" mud tires on it and3.55 gears. Would putting smaller tires on get me better gas mileage?"
d.) "I heard about this fuel addative that will give me5 more mpg. Does it work?"
