I cant imagine it being too hard, you can just stick a mechanical pump on the block (you will have to remove the old pump or use the old compressed air trick and break the bead inside the pump so the mechanical pump can flow through it), put the carb intake on, you most likely will have to eliminate the computer, although you might be able to get it to work without doing that. If you can leave the computer in, you will have to locate the wires that are needed for the engine to run, and you should be alright. It would really be easiest as well to leave the computer in because the transmission will not shift without it, and the speedo and other gauges will not function either.

Like Indy said, there's no lobe on the cam to drive a pump. It would have to be electrical. You could probably fool the pcm with a butload of resistors (lol) for themotor portion of the pcmand try leaving the tranny hooked up. You can use the exsisting crank trigger for the ignition and throw a vac. advance distributor in there. Carbs aren't that bad as long as you have a wideband hooked up and a screwdriver laying in the console. If it's just a toy, you'd probably be doing most of your driving at the same altitude, pressure usually varies by around 1", so, for the most part, tuning would mainly involve temp. I say go for it if your just screwing around trying to learn something.

exactly, im just trying to learn more, and its just gonna be a toy. i would love to not ahve to buy a comp. seeing as how this one is fried. elec fuel pump? i dont tihnk that would be to bad, maybe pricey... and to fix the tranny issue of not ahving a computer find a 5speed instead..
would the cam from and LA work to ahve the lobe for the mechanical fuel pump? i dont see why not, but Indy you seem to be the CAM man

Thats what I was trying to remember. Youd need 3 things for that to work. 1. The ability to run a cam from an LA motor in a magnum motor, which I have never looked into (namely thinking of the clearance issues with the fuel pump lobe, though I think the cam is the same size because theres a big empty spot on it where the lobe would be). 2. The provision on the side of the block to bolt in the fuel pump, which I dont remember ever seeing a block off plate or anything like that. 3. A bore for the pump pushrod. I dont think the magnum can do any of those. Electric fuel pumps are fine too, its what you have in there now.Nothing really diffrent, I dont know about having it hooked up to the key, though I dont see whyyou couldnt. Personally Id just have it on a toggle.Youll also have to run afuel pressure regulator inline with the new fuel system.
There are a couple other guys on here I would definately trust with cam advice...not everyone though.
I've contemplated this one a while back, and I thing the Dr. Mopar's orders are to gut the entire electrical system and switch it back to old school with pretty much new everything. New carb, possibly new intake, new distributor, possibly new cam if the existing cam doesn't have the gears to run the dizzy, new pump, possibly new tranny since the PCM controls the original, new dash guages, new whole lota shiznitobangpop... I say well worth it though. Or, just go to a junk yard, get an old LA Engine, swap your heads on it along with the hydraulic roller lifters and all that good stuff, and snap, your half way there.

just figure out how to get your guages to run without the PCM and how to get your electrical crap to do it's thing.
Aftermarket guages. Guy at carlisle last year was running a carbd bb on his ram and had to run all aftermarket guages. (I wish I had good pictures of the truck, this is the only picture I have of it)
Lets look at this as simple as possible. What would happen, if, he decided to put a carb intake on, carb, and put a regulator on the stock fuel pump? (and un plug the injectors of course) I know it would set off a crap load of codes, but I am curious if it would run or the ASD relay would kill the spark.

I really dont think there would be any way of setting timing. I think without the injectors plugged in the computer isnt able to compute timing properly. I dont KNOW, but that would be a concern of mine. It all hinges on what the computer can handle. If converting to a carb makes the computer lame and it refuses to function properly youll have to start looking at all the other things weve discussed.

I think the LA cams have alonger nose on them, and I don't think there is a place on the motor for a mech. pump. Even if there is, electric would be easier anyway IMO.
