Default round air cleaner

Ive had a few guys tell me that I should get a 14x3 round air cleaner. I havent done anything to the engine yet, all ive done is puta flowmaster on it with the dual exhaust. What exactly is a round air cleaner, what are the benefits, and where can I get one and can I put it on myself? Im no mechanic but I can work my way around on things pretty well. and after the round air cleaner what should I do next?

you can get a air cleaner at any auto parts store. its a big circle air filter that sits on your throttle body and takes in massive amounts of air. all you have to do is make a "s bolt", which is bending the air cleaner stud that comes in the package, so it will fit on the throttle body. a couple other guys will chime in with some more info about that. but i have one, and i love it.

its the air cleaners that are on ...say a 68 camaro or chevelle on the 4barrel carbs. i dont know how much gains but i can tell a difference vs the stock box. i got mine at pep boys, about $30 (spectre) then $44 for the K&N filter( also the kit comes w/ a filter so u dont have to buy the K&N unless you want to) then bought the spectre air cleaner riser $8 then home depot for the 1/4" allthread and wingnut 1' long $3 and then an air cleaner gasket at checker $3 (lost my old one). then look in the DIY for (K&N FIPK no more!!) threadand it will tell you how to do it. also just in case you dont know (i didnt) our throttle body diameter is 5 1/8. same as a 4 barrel holley carb. so it will fit. so in total i paid about $90 for mine but thats w/ the K&N.

Backwood:

Just go to Advance Auto, or nearly any auto parts. They will have everything you need. 14x3 cleaner, 1/2 spacer, & maybe a five inch all thread stud. You will need to bend & cut the threaded stud down to size. less than $50.00

Got the 14 x 3 on mine & it is a great mod.

or, if you wanna get real fancy, you can go to summitts site and get a "mopar air cleaner". IMO they are badass.

I put an Edelbrock 10x2 inch on mine. I readthe post on the round AC and when looking at the store, saw this one.The baseis made with a 1/2 inch rise and also hasa port for the breather hose. It fits great with no clearance issues. With hardware and all, I paid less than $30.
Check it out.

I'm very tempted to get a 14x3 setup and then get the K&N Filter Top to goon top. That just seems like the best way to get the most amount of air straight into the engine and give you most likely some power gain. There'sa nice looking K&N knockoff on Ebay; looks like it could be nice, but you never know. Just do a search for K&N Filter top and they will pop up.
Or you could get a regular assembly(They have the Edelbrock ones at Auto Zone for like $30) and probably be very happy as well.

Ok I installed the 14x3 today...was a pain in the a$$!! I think I made the Sbolt too long...oh well got it on hope I don't have to take it off...ever!

What did you all do for the pcv? the host was too tigher to connect under, what breather did you all use? I got this fancy thing that was $16 and it pissed me off not fitting right so Im gonna return it!

This is the last I need to do any help would be great, what u used and how u did it.

Oh and should I be concerns my wires are basically sitting on top of the air cleaner?
