Default rapid oil consumption

I filled up with gas and oil before leaving town and drove 160 miles on the interstate to find the oil level almost to the bottom of the range. This is unusual because it has always used a little oil but never near this amount (almost a quart in 160 mi) The man i bought it from said he recently replaced the intake plenum so i do not believe it is that. The truck also does not have any noticible oil leaks. I do not know of any other reason it would be using this amount of oil. any ideas of the cause would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

that's a lot of oil. if no leaks, then its got to be burning it.
any smoke at idle (valve seals), or going down the road, or all the time.
check pcv valve and make sure it rattles (ensures your not building up pressure).
no milky oil i assume (head gasket)
check coolant color for no oil in radiator.
that only leaves burning it. rings, valve seals, valve guides, plenum gasket.
ask the previous owner if he put in a hughes or aps aluminum plate, or just replaced the gasket and reused the steel plate. if he reused the steel plate, you're probably going to get to do it again. sorry.

i will check for oil down the tb. i checked the level again and i think that i must not have waited for the oil to drain down. it does not seem to be burning as much. the oil is not brown or milky.
