Muffler Ideas

I really think it comes to the location of the muffler... Let me explain...I have a super 44...love it btw...I placed it on purpose the further back I could so it be under the bed and NOT the cab! It sounds great but the drone is isn't bad...drones a lot more at 2000 rpm but not annoying at all. When I got my music on I barely notice it...maybe it might be for ya the location...place it as far back as you can!

My Super 44 drones pretty noticeably at 1700-1800 RPMs, but not really at any other. And like timidone said, I just turn up the music if it bugs me.

Before you go buying yet another muffler, I recommend you just have an exhaust shop move your existing one as far back under the bed as possible.

+3 on moving the muffler farther back. should help you out.

+4 on moving the muffler back. And use a tailpipe.

I use a 2.5" y-pipe to a 3" tube (no cat) that runs to a super 40 in the stock location on the tailpipe (which may be further back due to the fact that the stock muffler is like 3 feet long). out of the muffler is all stock right to the tailpipe. I have zero drone issues, I can hardly hear it on the highway. I was assuming you had a tailpipe, if you dont, that is 100% the problem.

He has pipes coming out the back with tips on it. Or always has so I don't see why he wouldn't now. Mine does drone a little if I turn the radio off and listen to it. It's not bad to me but I think it's what he is talking about. I really think the stock muffler and then maybe a y pipe to look like a dual exhaust would be the answer for him.

I agree that he has always had the pipes out the back (well sides) for as long as I can remember. He has been down this path before and I believe has already moved the position of the muffler if I remember right.

Yup the last time he had them move the muffler back. I had thought he said he liked how it sounded now but I guess the FM40 is getting too loud for him.

gibson sport muffler. si/do, thats what i have. Almost no drone, so much that i feel like my truck isnt loud at all. But all my friends tell me that my truck is very loud. Cant notice it in the cab though, and i usually do highway driving at around 2k and then i just hear a rumble. I constantly put foot to floor so i can hear it in the cab. Its loud ouside but quite inside.

You all are correct, I had the muffler placed underneath the bed. I even added a magnaflow cat too. It doesn't crackle and pop like it used to, but it still seems to be an earful, especially when it's working through the gears. Once it's on the highway and maintaining a certain speed, it's still loud, but at least consistent. It's when the truck is going from a stop, having to run through it's gears is where it really starts to drone, espeically as it's creeping to the next gear. If I'm going up a hill it just gets so darn loud, almost embarrassing, so I'll just go extra slow up the hill so I can forget about trying to get it to shift.

I'm guessing it's those longtube headers with that giant 3" y-pipe. That 3" y-pipe connects into a 3" cat, and then a 3" flowmaster 40 muffler. Hometheater might be right though. A stock muffler might still sound very nice without all the drone. I had tried the magnaflow once thinking it would drone less, but it did not. I could have gotten over the fact it wasn't raspy, but when it droned as bad as the 44, I just had to get rid of it.
