What are the towing specs on a 97 ram 2500 4wd? I have a 5th wheel hitch also. Whats the most I can pull safely? Also what can I pull with the towing package? Thanks

I don't know, but I'm sure CK will help you out when you give him the info he asked for.

However, the one thing I do know,(if it's an automatics trans) is that if you are doing some serious towing, you should replace the factory trans cooler with a better aftermarket cooler. And never tow with OD on.

Oops. I forgot to put the engine size. I guess that would help! Its a 5.9. Auto tranny. I have done plenty of towing with it across the US with several 5th trailers but I would like to know the most it can tow.. The biggest I ever towed was a 30ft 5 wheel. I now have a 27 1/2 ft 5th wheel.. thanks

Also the 5th wheels I have towed before were right around 7,000 pounds. The truck does great! Truck stops very good and you don't even know the trailer is back there unless there's a strong cross wind...

Well, not using OD, and beefing up the tranny cooler will just help with the life of the tranny. But, seems you are doing fine so far. Sorry I can't help with the towing capacity.

5.9 Cummins or 5.9 V8? I have a 25ft camper, but have not towed it yet.

Assuming you mean 5.9 V8 I think it's between 8600-8800 pounds although with a 5th wheel I'm sure it's a bit more than that. Now if you're meant a 5.9 I6 (12v) then it's more like 13,000lbs and you are a bastard =p

I know you can tow heavier with a 5th wheel, but i'm not sure how much. If you're pushing the limits of that you should take care to beef up your brakes, and get yourself a super sized tranny oil cooler.

5.9 gas. I wish it was a diesel. The towing I do is right around 7,000 pounds. So I am not over weight. Truck stops great and pulls it great. I have pulled numerous trailers. I am just wondering what the weight limits are?? I also have a lift on the truck and some bigger tires etc etc
Thanks again

Yeah, you'll be absolutley fine with 7,000lbs. You still might want to consider getting yourself a big beefy Tranny oil cooler, even if you have the stock one. Just cut the return line from the stock cooler, and run it into the bottom of the new cooler, then run a new hose from the output of the original to the input on the new cooler. It'll let you fit a little extra fluid too which is really good. It's an inexpensive mod. and you'll need a $3.00 fuel line disconnect tool.

I say this because you have a 46re and they kinda suck.
