Need Help from someone in California about catalytic converters
I may be moving to California soon and my catalytic converter needs to be replaced. Can someone tell me what aftermarket converter will pass California emissions laws? I have a 1999 1500 4x4 quad cab 5.9. Thanks!

This reminded me of a government-mandated law requiring vehicle manufacturers to cover cat's for 10 years. I'll try to find it, it's in the law talking about vehicle warranties, and that an aftermarket part has to actually be the cause of the problem to void a warranty...
The Design and Defect Warranty covers repair of emission related parts which become defective during the warranty period. The Design and Defect warranty for model year 1995 and newer light-duty cars and trucks is outlined below:
Design and Defect Warranty Coverage for 1995 and newer light-duty vehicles:
Emission control and emission related parts are covered for the first 2 years or 24,000 miles of vehicle use; and
Specified major emission control components are covered for the first 8 years or 80,000 miles of vehicle use.
According to federal law, an emission control or emission related part, or a specified major emission control component, that fails because of a defect in materials or workmanship, must be repaired or replaced by the vehicle manufacturer free of charge as long as the vehicle has not exceeded the warranty time or mileage limitations for the failed part.

if they'll pass they will say either legal for sale in california or 50 state legal. but why would you want to move to cali? they're all a bunch of commies. my truck probably wouldn't pass their hippie/ go green emissions tests and i know my camaro wouldn't, my camaro is straight piped from the manifolds back.
need to move to tennessee since they don't have inspections. inspections are retarded anyway, i know if my truck is running and safe to be on the road and it kills me to have to pay someone to tell me something i already know. they should only be required for women, gays and city-folk.

Actually, that's only partly true. It applies mostly to vehicles sold and registered here. If you bring a vehicle from out of state it only has to have 25k miles on it and you can register it here. It has to be stock as originally sold, so if it didn't have a cat from the factory you don't have to add one, but if it is modified then all bets are off.

I have a '97 Ram 1500 and had no problems registering it except that I think all pick-up trucks are considered a Commercial Vehicle. It means you have to pay more to get it registered and you have to get it weighed. Bunch of bull if you ask me. I moved from AZ a couple of years ago.
