Default RPM's Surge When Cruise Control is on

When using my cruise control, the RPM's on my 2001 RAM 1500 would surge 100-200 RPM's....I saw a post in this forum about replacing the TPS - Throttle Position Sensor. I replaced it tonight (cost $55 at O'Rilley Auto Parts) and it fixed the problem.

The truck does idle a little faster now though. Maybe that will smooth out.

that's good news that it fixed your problem. if you didn't already do so, you might want to reset the pcm, which might cause it to relearn its settings a little sooner. disconnect neg battery cable and turn ignition to start for 30 sec. this discharges all memory. then hook the battery back up. it should idle cold at 800-1000 and warm at about 600.

I remember posting how a new TPS fixed my truck's cruise control issues. Maybe it was my post you saw. It took the dealer 3 visits over a 1 year span to finally figure it out, but once they did it has not been a problem since. Glad you got yours fixed.

Good deal man, it could be worse, like the wires inside the tranny pan.
