Im a little confused on your question. are you asking about the plenum plate repair the yes it is worth it.

as for the rest of the mods I'll have to let the other guys chime in on that as for cutting the horns and the center plate out.

I didn't do none of that just the hughes plenum plate fix to keep my truck from sucking up oil like it had its own built in slurpee machine.

While you are in there fixing the plenum gasket, yes, it is worth it, IMO. My truck maintains speed on the highway easier, and has more get up and go at highway speeds. Down low didn't notice a whole lot, maybe a little, but it didn't hurt it either.

IMO, sure beats spending $600 for the Hughes Intake Manifold. That'd be the best route, but by far the most expensive.

If you were to take the manifold out for the sole purpose of doing the "kegger mod", no, not worth it IMO.

If its out already for the gasket, might as well. Its just a dremel tool and a few more hours of time. Except for the EGR trucks (not sure on those), it will not hurt anything, can only help. On a completely stock truck, it will hurt your low end. If you have made a few modifications, like air cleaner (CAI or 14x3), programmer, Fastman/bored out TB, etc., it will not hurt your low end and will help you on the highway with maintaining speed and accelerating.

Well if the group buy goes through on the hughs intake I'll be selling my modded kegger with the hughs plenum plate fix.

By the way it is worth the mod if you have to replace the plenum gasket. I don't know how much more power it gives you but it allows the engine to rev quicker under load.

modding the kegger in my opinion is worth it. you have a '97 so i don't think you have EGR(lucky b*stard lol). even if you do have egr, its not a big deal. you don't need it to function normally. just plug it off at the header and you'll be fine.

If you are doing the plenum repair, then yes, completely worth it. Only downside is the time it takes, I could have had my truck running a day sooner, but I took my time. Also, you have to be REAL careful when your cutting away in there. You want all the runners about the same size, and its real easy to get into the mating surface (where the metal contacts the gasket). If your plenum isn't leaking, its not worth the effort. 14x3 air cleaner is definitely a must, even if you don't mod anything else.
