Dodge also made a 4x4 version of the Warlock, but it was white with black lettering. IIRC, it was a limited production run maybe only 2-3 model years. As a kid my neighbor bought one brand new in maybe 1978 or 79. I always told him when i turned 17 ( i was 9 or 10 at the time) i was gonna buy it from him. Sadly he passed on just prior to my 15th birthday, and I never saw the truck again. Probably rotten away in a wrecking yard, or already been "recycled" by now.

That's why I asked him about it. The rear leaf definetly looked like a 3/4 ton, but the badge made me figure it was a 1/2 ton. He said it has a 3/4 ton frame. I really seemed to know exactly what he was talking about when it came to the truck though. He was a wealth of information.

Most Warlocks were offered in Black/gold trim and if his was indeed a factory red finish, is even rarer. I myself have never seen a red one (but several black).
They were also offered in D100 or D150 trim, which means he might have had a heavier frame. But I can assure you that no Warlock came from the factory with side out duals. All had single out behind the rear tire.

Haven't seen a warlock in many years. I saw a little red express just yesterday. As far as I remember LRE had only had 360's in them. Looking it appears early (76-77) Warlocks could have had anything from a 318-440 in it. I can't remember what year either 78 or 79 but the LRE was that fastest American street production vehicle in the 1/4 mile. Even beating out the Corvette. Just how cool was that?

The Dodge Warlock, originally a concept vehicle and part of Dodge's late 1970s "adult toys" line, is a short wheelbase truck that was produced in limited production in 1976 and regular production from 1977 to 1979 under the Dodge name brand by the Chrysler Corporation, later known as DaimlerChrysler. They were available in 4x2 and 4x4 models and offered only in black, red, orange or green. Its main draw was that it was a factory customizable truck, also known as a "trick truck", and was designed to appeal to young 4x4 buyers. The 1979 model is different in that it has "Warlock II" printed on the tailgate.

If someone can show me a build code I'll believe it. Its a popular mod though. The reason is that back in the day converters held so much heat and exhausts were not built with stainless pipe. The long tailpipes on those old rams rusted quick especially when driving in town. It was a combination of corrosive bi- products from the converter and lack of heat.
I've done the same mod to the two Pre 80's Dodge PU's I've had, and also to my 78 Ramcharger. JC Whitney used to sell a kit that bolted to the stock manifolds and looked pretty factory.
