Default what happened to the good 'ol days?

i just got an estimate back from my auto shop for things they found wrong with my inspection. i knew there was a bunch of things wrong with it, but i mean, its a '95 with 200,600 miles. you can't expect a truck like that to have everything perfect right? wrong. they charged me $250 for a clockspring (i never even knew what that was until i looked it up) to fix my horn problem, which if i read correctly, should also fix my cruise control that hasn't worked since i got the truck. thats pretty expensive for a little part that goes in a steering wheel. regardless, with that installed, and a few bulbs replaced, the inspection fee, and labor, it came to $440.

now thats NOT including the exhaust problems they found. i apparently need a NEW cat because of an exhaust leak between the headers and y-pipe. according to them, a new CAT (factory by the way) would cost $537.20 JUST FOR THE CAT!!!. total for everything would've been $1220!!! i pretty much told them they can screw themselves on that job and that i could get a magnaflow for half that! and the guy was like, yea man, i know, thats why i seperated it from the rest, so you can do it yourself.

so, i'm just asking...what happened to the good 'ol days of having friends and people who cared about the economic situation everyone is in? what ever happened to the good 'ol days of handing over a case of beer and a 20 dollar bill and slapping a sticker on it? back home, as long as it had 4 wheels and it drove down the road, stopped, and all the lights worked, you're good. i don't make that much money to just throw into my truck...(oh btw, they didnt even catch other stuff i MYSELF knew was wrong with the truck).

FML. have a nice day :-)

i'm not using my post strictly for my example, its a general concept as well. it applies for everything in this day and age. what ever happened to people helping people out? isn't that how people are suppose to be raised? to lend a hand to someone in need of help? to work with them if they don't have the money right then?
when i used to work with my dad, and we had a lady or someone less fortunate that couldn't afford to pay their bill for getting their heat fixed, we worked with them. if it was an old lady with good spaghetti sauce, we worked with her. if it was a honest man that has 3 kids and no wife, we employed him to do some work for us. they needed heat, just like we need transportation. something like that, you can't just NOT have. its called helping your fellow man. isn't that they way things are suppose to be?

idk maybe i'm living in a fantasy land lol.

I agree totally, but the fact is that most of us are living in a fantasy. Which is why nothing will ever change. At least in our life time.
