Well I never let my girlfriend drive my SS/T but I wanted to go on a roadtrip to Kansas to see some family and friends. So the Focus gets like 3o ish highway so I head out. My Ram had a quarter tank and she put 40 in at 2.50 a gallon so I don't think it was all the way full. Maybe it showed that cause the gauge lies sometimes, as far as sloshing around.

If she over filled it she may have jammed the sending unit in the full position especially driving it like that with the fuel putting pressure on the float. I am leaning more and more towards a new sending unit.

Well, on the bright side, a new sending unit means dropping the tank and for the same effort you will get a new sender, fuel filter and fuel pump. Knock three birds out with one stone. And as an added bonus at no additional cost you can clean all the sediment out of your tank bottom.

As I previously stated, I have the same issue.
Thread Jack:
I banged on my tank with a rubber mallet. Didn't move the gauge.
Took the cluster cover off, pushed the needle over, turned the key, and the needle moved back past full.
So I guess this means I need a new pickup/sending module then, eh?

Yep you sure do need a new fuel pump/sending unit assembly AND now your going to have to figure out a way to recalibrate your fuel gauge so that it reads correctly.

No, it runs out. I overestimated my mileage and ran out of gas awhile back.
