Default Torque Converter questions

I had posted a while back about the stock TC. MonteC was nice enough to reply back and say they were junk lol. Well i had some tranny work done on my truck a few years ago and i don't remember if the TC was replaced or not. They did the TC clutch solenoid and some other bs but not sure if a new tc is involved in that or not.

Anyway.... I have been pondering during my whole rebuild throwing a new TC in there while I'm at it. The thing is I don't wanna go with some crazy ass stall. I would like to keep close to stock. maybe same as stock or next one up.

So heres my questions

What is the stock stall speed?

Can you get a stock stall but better quality aftermarket tc?

Do they make a step up from stock?

Whats a good replacement thats not gonna cost me and arm and a leg?

I'm close to having all the engine parts I need so now I'm looking at supporting mods.

KEEP IN MIND: This is a big 4x4 truck that I drive in the winter. I don't need anybody saying "dude get a 4000 stall it will kick ass" (Don't be smart asses and say that now either lol)

I know that APS Precision makes quality TC's that can handle what you can throw at it. There are other quality companies out there that make good components for our transmissions.

Stock is like 2000. I would shoot for 2200. 2400 would be over kill for you.

2000? are you sure? i thought it was more like 1000.
the guy that rebuilt my transmission said that stockers are junk too. he has a guy that builds them for him and the only one he has ever seen go out was on an eagle talon that a guy decided to adjust the tps on.

Stock stall is around 1500.

For 1500Dodge, if you have a dr evil tranny they add at 2000 stall. Otherwise youd run with your stocker.

Blue, what range of numbers are you planning to be putting down. And where on the rpm range do you think youd be putting down your numbers. THats what you should decide your stall at.

ok doing a little searching here and everything I find for a 46RE says A518. Is that the right thing?

Also I found this which seems pretty good I guess. I do tow with my truck on occasion so I don't wanna get a TC that can't handle towing

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HUP-15-LTOW/

Little higher then I wanted to spend but if its good I guess I could deal with it.

Is anything else needed when changing out a tc?
