Question 35" wheels on RAM 1500

Hi guys,

I have a question because i want to mount 35 x 12,5 x 17 on my 2001 RAM 1500 4WD.

My Truck is already 3" lifted ( by Bodylift ).
I want to add a 2" suspension lift kit ( spring coil spacers / blocks ) to get enough clearance for the 35" wheels.

Now i need further informations to find the correct rim-well and backspacing.
Which rim-well is frequently used ? 17 x 8 , 17 x 9 or 17 x 19
and what about the backspacing ?

I dont want to cut out my fenders and i dont want a wide stance.
My wish is, that the wheels do not stand out to much,
the tyres shall run "under" the truck and not behind.
( i hope you understand what i mean )
Than i want to buy a set of SMALL fender flares. ( round about 2" )

I come from Germany and it is very difficult to get such informations here.
Maybe someone can give me informations.
Thank you for help.

I have 35" under my 96 ram....PO said it there's a 4 inch body lift however i wasnt aware they made larger than 3 inch body lifts....(does look like all the factory rubber mounts and such are there) anyway it looks as if he also used heavier coil springs in the front and add a leafs in the rear because its lifted more like 7 inches and rides on 15x10 rims (not sure on backspacing) and 35x 12.50 mud tires....I just installed the stainless fender flares which dont really do anything as far as covering the tires but my tires dont really stick out much at all and after adding mud flaps I think combined with the stainless flares my body should be protected and stay fairly clean...

You can do a 17x9 wheel. The backspacing shouldn't be too bad either. I have a 16x8 wheel on mine. I believe the stock wheels are 16x7.

I have 35x12.5x17's on the stock off road wheels. The wheels are 17x8, and I think around 5.25" backspacing. I think 17x9 would be a little better, and a little less backspacing as well, that way they wouldn't rub the control arms at full turn (these do a smidgen on one side). Also, my truck has a 3" body lift and 1 ton springs (3" of lift), so the stance is close to what yours will be.

Nice and tucked in the fenders!

Hi guys,

thank you so much for the many answers ;-)

@olyelr:
Your truck looks like just the same that I mean ! AWESOME !

Now you guys told me, that it is the best choise to mount 17 x 9 inch rims,
because in that way, the wheels do not rub the control arms
Have i understood this correctly ?

.. but what is the best backspacing and offset ? Hmmm, let me see.....

My favourite rims are these here:

http://www.4wheelparts.com/Wheels/Mo...MO95779055312N

Do you think the backspacing and the offset is ok, ?
If i am right, these wheels are only available in this configuration.

Thank you for help.

NIce wheel choice.

Just about everyone in this thread had me thrown threw a loop though cause I kept reading 35" WHEEL and not 35" Tires, please stop refering to tires as wheels....HUGE difference. I kept waiting to see pics of a RAM with som 35" rims.....lol

CruiserY2K- Side not, if you do buy your rims from that website I would suggest you call them, I bought my rims/tires there and I saved a ton of money by calling and talking to the sales person.. I guess they make more money if they sell the tires as apposed to the internet sales so there more inclined to give you more bang for your buck.

olyel- When did you paint your rockers? I was gonna do a Sport conversion on mine but was not sure how the dual colored front bumper would look, now that ive seen yours makes me wanna go that route... just wont be able to keep the brush guard

hi my name is josh heckman i am newer to this i've only had my truck for a year now but i love working on it and i love being able to always make it better and one thing i want to do is lift it. i dont want to do a body lift because in somecases i think it looks tacky. i've never heard of anyone putting one ton springs on is that fairly easy to do and what kind of price range is that? is it a kit or can i go pull springs off a 3500 at the junk yard? i have a 1999 dodge ram 4x4 with a 5.9 thank you for any help. by the way you have a nice truck.

I do know what you mean because rims are so often refered to as wheels. But I actually think a tire on a rim would constitute a wheel right?..and he was asking about the tires and rims so....I guess you could look at it both ways and still be right.

CruiserY2K, those wheels are very nice, and the size and backspacing is perfect... they will stick out just a touch and prevent the tires from rubbing on the control arms. All 2nd gen dodges have that issue with the stock wheels and 35's (some people even have the problem with 33's).

Sweet wheel choice!
