So I've done my fair share of searching, yet can't seem to find any hard results.
When I point my speaker direction upwards to all the front speakers, nothing comes out. Point to the rear or middle and the back speakers work just fine. (bought the vehicle like this)
I'm assuming there's a total of 4 speakers up front, so I suppose I'd be surprised to find that each are dead, yet perhaps. Or is it likely that the stock head unit is simply messed up and/or if that's a somewhat common?
I don't have much time during the week to take out a speaker and test it etc so I figure I'd hear the thoughts of other owners.

The stock H/Us were prone to have their internal amps pop. They were a weak design.
You could have popped the other amps, but I don't see that really happening to all of them at once.
The decks in these trucks are insanely easy to pull, so I suggest you go and have it bench tested at an audio shop to eliminate it from the equation.

Not very likely they'd pop at once, as Laramie says, time to yank it and do some good old fashioned diagnosing.
I replaced my stock unit and front speakers years ago.
Lifetime warranty on the 6x9's, but unfortunately from Circuit City.
Had it sitting around collecting dust, saw one go for bout $150 on ebay so I put mine up, and was surprised to get about the same.
I think it had a CD player.
I'm having a problem with the Sound system in my truck too, except mine is totally custom. when I turn on my Radio, my speaker in the Drivers door makes a really loud Popping noise, I'm hopping it's just a loose wire somewhere down the line. I'll have to check sometime this week.

That loud pop is usually the amp coming on. Most newer amps have a soft power-on circuit or delay so that pop doesn't happen as it can damage the speakers. Does the sound ever cut out while driving? That would indicate a bad power connection somewhere.

Thanks for the help so far everyone. Though I'm a little unclear, I suppose I'm a little confused by the terminology.
Internal amp(s) plural?
When your referring to amps are you saying that the stock unit has an "amp" output per speaker that can bust/pop? Leaving only some of the speakers working..
Or are you saying that the actual speakers themselves are busting??
Or moreover is there a downline amp hidden somewhere that the speakers run from? (just as in other vehicles)
The stock head unit has an amp for the four channels (FL, FR, RL, RR).
If you have the Infinity Premium Sound option, there are also external amps at the door speakers.

Ah I get it. No I don't believe I have the Infinity option yet I'll check tomorrow.
My guess is the FR/FL amps have blown, especially if its fairly common for the amps to blow. Even further, I've had blown speakers before and they at least make some garble noise.. there is nada coming out of either front speakers.
I suppose for now I'll keep a look out for another stock head unit for a quick fix..

Correct.
My previous quote needed an apostrophe in it. That was meant to say "Head units plural".
Your H/U only has one (1) amp, but it has a minimum of 4 channels.
This is why I suggested you pull your stock head unit out and take it to have it bench tested. Should only cost you about $10.00.
If it is blown, I suggest you forego the the "get another stocker" idea, you'll be happier with an upgraded deck. The deck size for our trucks is IE, or 1 din.

sometimes the speakers go dead completely when blown....my drivers door one was blown this way when I bought it until replacing the 6x9's last week. the factory speakers really are wimpy looking things. You threw me off when you suggested you had 6 speakers....mine only has 4... but its a 96. I was thinking maybe you did have the premium sound package and there was a short in the power or ground to the front amps....
