My first Dodge
Hello from South Carolina.
My name is Jim and I just purchased a 2001 Ram Quad Cab. It's a very nice Sport model with 97k miles. It looks great and runs well. It has the 5.9 motor and it runs like a top.
So far my only question is this:
The previous owner installed 20" chrome wheels and 285/60-20 tires. The truck seemed to have some tracking issues while driving down the road. It would sometimes "hunt" side to side. I checked the ball joints and they were shot so I insalled new ones. It has helped about 80% but it's still there to some extent. Do those steamroller tires on the front contribute to this phenomenon or could I have some other suspension worries?
Thanks in advance and I look forward to my truck and being on the forum.
Jim

Size of wheels doesnt contribute to that problem, what is the tire size? Your track bar is most likely shot, as it is with most Rams. A lot of guys really like the Thruen bar: http://thurenfabrication.com/stocktb.html
+1 for the track bar. After you replace it, you should defiantly get an alignment. Before you do, I would also check the wheel bearings and ty-rod, so you don't end up needing to get another alignment if they turn out to be bad as well.
