Default RE: 2001 Dashboard Cracks

I bought my 99 Ram in 6-03 with 46k on it, I just turned 79k last week. I got it from an older gent who had all of the service done at the dealer. The truck looked and drove like brand new & to this day has never been smoked in. When I got it there was 1 crack about 6' long in center of the dash. In may of this year there were 6 or 7 cracks in the dash. One morning it was around 46-48 outside when I got home from work it was around 75, my dash looked like someone beat it wiht a hammer. After my dash cracked I started asking other people at work with Rams about their dashes. Everyone with a 99 or 00 all had dashes that had broken apart. One of the guys went to the dealer & they told him 98's to 01's cracked worse than any other years. The people with 94's to 97's did'nt have problems with any cracking.

I bought a dash cover for $156.00 including shipping. I'll let you know how it fits, and how much of a pain it is to put in.

I own a 1999 Ram 1500. I have garaged this truck and use a windshield "sun blocker" when parked outside. I have never used Armoral on the dash. First crack came about 37k the second crack just appeared at 49K. The drink holder hinge mechanism broke about 3 months ago(more cheap, brittle plastic). I'm waiting anxiously to see how the replacement dash caps work. I assume the process of removing the original dash cover is a major headache.

Well..................... I heard from the local dodge dealership today. Their corporate headquarters offer was they would pay for half of the part, which is the dash, and I would have to pay the other half of the dash plus labor. The only option I see is to call NTSB and report the dash condition as a safety hazzard. I found the number in the back of my owners manual, I only hope that enough of us voice our opinions and dodge is forced to recall the trucks and replace the dash. I will be making my call Monday morning, wont you join me?
