Default Ram 1500 Nv4500 Swap

Well like the title says I doing a swap in my 1997 dodge ram ex cab short bed 5.2. I had a transmission code come up and basely saying that it slipping in overdrive to make a long story short. But I am tired of the 46re I have always change the oil ever year added transmission cooler eclectic fans and delete the check value, and still have this happen. After researching the aftermarket transmission for it and still reading guy blowing them up. I well say I run my truck hard, I’ll hook to my trailer that alone weights 2500 pounds never afraid to run it hard and always scared my transmission is going to let me down. So I started to research manual swap and found that the nv3500 are not any stronger and won’t take what I do. Then I figure out that in the ¾ ton dodge with 5.9 gas they used a nv4500. I know for a fact there a strong. So all I had to find is a dodge 2500 5.9 gas with a manual and in really bad shape so it be cheap. Your pro thinking the same thing, I’ll never found one. Well I found one and not only was it the same year and an ex cab short bed but it was walking distance from me. So I picked it up pretty cheaper last and now I starting my swap. I well also have picture but also.

I just hope that if your going as far as you are with your project that your sure to take those nice big 3/4 ton axels too. Cudos to you though, once finished if you do everything right, your truck will finally be worth all the money you spend on it and the weak red fluid filled pandoras box will finally be dealt with. Keep us posted on your progress.

That 3/4 ton might have the 5-VIN 360 as well. If it does, you might as well take the HDC engine, too.

Its cool you found a donor truck. I was unable to find one for my NV3500 swap. Really not a hard job, just time consuming.

Well a small update
i had a two toned dash becuase it cracked and replace the top peace for the loc junk yard well it was two diff color grays. Then my bottom peace broke too and the radio was getting ready the fall in the back of it. So i replaced the whole thing from my donor truck just needed a good cleaning. I also installed my pedals, and the peace in the cluster that covers the shift selector.

My plan is when i come home for chrismas break is to pull the trans then because i well have more time to work on it. So hoply even thing gos well.

I notice after the dash and pedals swap my right turn sign dose not work. I can hear the flasher clicking. My tail light still flashing it just the bulb in my dash and the front turn sign. So hopeful this weekend i well get that strighted out. Any ideas on that would be nice.
