wow! looks like it grabed quite a bit. the only question i have is flow thru the filter... is it catching gunk before the filter or after the filter...?

Oil flows from outside in.... But Since oil is thick the paper in the filter has to have pours wide enough to let the oil through. Thus it lets the fine metal slip through. As for your question months ago on how it will do so close to the exhaust pipe.... After a 4 months it looks like new after I wiped it down and re installed it

see ya

oh also

-----awesome test dude!!!!!!! im gonna check out that site and scince you mentiond a 30% military discount... no reason for me not to get one.. thanks again dude!!!! awesome video too!!!

make sure you tell them you are military and they refund the 30% about 2 days after they charge your credit card. For some reson I see a chargeback after 2 days of the 30%.

funny how they did it

seeing the flow in the diagram would tell me that some of the gunk you see that the magnet captured would be caught by the filter. the better way to test it would be to have a double filter setup and put the mag on the downstream filter. that way you can see what is getting past the 1st filter (which would also get past the 2nd filter). or another thing to do would be to send that gunk off to a lab and have them analyze it for size (if there is anyone who does that).

anyway, it rocks. I havent seen the video, for some reason there is a problem downloading it from home so I'm gonna check it out at work.

hey here's another thought... what if you (someone) took a magnet and ran it thru their used oil? I have a pretty strong one that I could try, just to see how much actually gets past the filter. that way you would have an idea of how much the filter is missing...

Yup good thoughts on the paper picking up some metal and I bet it would on the bigger parts. I dont think it would have caught the fine metal though. When I touched it it was very fine.

that's what I'd figured (fine metal particles), looks like I'll be getting 2 maybe 3 of them...

i changed the oil in my uncles ford once and left the oil in my drain pan for about 2 months before getting around to it and taking it to a shop for disposal..when i dumped it out.. i could see a pool of metal savings at the bottom that had settled over time..so yea i think your magnet test would work steve

For the oil pan or to stick on the filter? If its to stick on the filter the magnet wouldnt pull enough. If you watch the video closely you can see when I poke around in the filter (with the filtermag on) and it pulls the screw driver to the inside wall of the filter. It takes a nice yank to free the screw driver. Your speaker magnet might help alittle but you need a magnet molded to the shape of the oil filter.

Anyway Im doing my wifes car this weekend and Ill post up another video of it. She has driven on the autobahn for about 1500 miles at 100mph plus. Not to mention she has 3500 miles of city driving also. Should be interesting to look in there. This is going to be a little harder to pop the oil filter in two. I put a k&n oil filter on her car and the metal side wall is twice as thick. We will see.
