Update
I contacted the Canadian # and they sent a check last month
5.9 they only covered my Magnaflow cat, not the o2 sensor
99 V10, they said it had to fail an etest to get the cats replaced. Tuesday it passed with flying colors of course.

Here in Ontario you have to pass an etest, no cat, no pass. I think its more of an Alberta thing

i also have a 1997 dodge ram 1500 reg cab long box 5.2 V8 and when i was approaching the 130,000km mark i noticed the rattle starting and knew the cat was done from a previous experience i have had with ford for a 88 mustang cat replacement. anyways i took the truck into the dealer probably 2 years ago or so and told them my cat is falling apart inside and would eventually become plugged and cause serious engine damage if not repaired and i was demanding they do it under warranty or in compliance with federal pollution laws they told me it was not covered and federal laws are only 10yrs 120,000km and the repair parts would be $960.00 plus installation. i replaced my own cat after several months with an aftermarket one for $300. now they are issuing a recall and extended warrenty but now my engine is cooked from the cat being plugged and overheating the back cylinders in the motor and the backpressure in the pipe caused a leaky head gasket (oil is now in coolant) i guess i can still send away to chrysler and get my $300 back as for the engine i dunno

Ifound some good articles from lemonaid web site and the lemonaid book that basically say once a item is recalled or admitted it has a defect it supersedes the warranty limits and has to be replaced or repaired by the dealer regardless of mileage as set out in previous cases seen before the supreme court. i will try going after the dealer armed with these articles and precidents from the lemonaid book and see if they will repair my damages. I'll let u all know how it turns out

if your is rattling i suggest to stop driving it and get it fixed before it cooks ur motor

LOL, besides that, it went bad because the plenum gasket is probably blown. Which is the real defect.(which was masked with a flash of the PCM) It's easier and cheaper for them to just replace the cat.The cat will just keep going bad eventually.

I followed this thread for awhile back when it first started in 2005. I then kind of forgot about it until today when I saw updated messages.. I have a 2001 Ram 1500 5.9. Did Chrysler stop this program? I have yet to receive any notice of recall from Chrysler. Now I know that there were two versions of the 2001 model year. The early 2001 were produced in the first half of 2000 in order to beat the changes in the CAFE standards. In August of 2000 the next generations of the 2001 model were built with the new CAFE standard certifications. I just wander if that may be the reason I didn't receive a recall notice. Mine was built in October of 2000. Does anyone know if this is the case. If not should I let Dodge know that I didn't receive one? By the way I didn't move or change my number. I have 156,000 + miles on it and I seem to be losing power. I haven't noticed any rattle in it. Mileage has dropped off.
