Default Chrylser admits Catalytic converters bad 1996-2001

I am sure those of you who have been reading the different forums for awhile know that the Catalytic Converters on Rams and Dakotas go bad frequently: rattling noises around 40,000-80,000 miles with occassional plugging either completely killing engine power above idle, or really poor MPG.

Chrysler has finally admitted the problem for 1996-2001,
but the 1992-1995 Ram catalytic converters were every bit as bad.

Thanks for the heads up Hank. Ill be printing that out and returning to the stealer with my 99. Both the V10s cats are rattling badly and when I went in to get them to fix it they said there is nothing wrong with them and will only replace them if it fails an etest. Etest this January so either way I should be rid of the rattle.

My 96 I expected to spit cats out with all the dragracing I do with it so I can't say much about the 20k miles or 2.5 yrs (max) I get out of them.

umm, ok... funny thing about that.. umm, i removed the original cat about a year ago when i put duals on the truck. i had planned on gutting it... to my surprise, all that existed was a piece of 1/4" mesh... nothing else... needless to say, i didn't bother gutting it then... haha... the truck had about 210,000 miles on it then, so it is possible that it could have just deteriorated... also, i just recently replaced one of my original O2 sensors- after 280,000 miles! whoever wants to say that Dodge makes ****ty stuff can come look at my truck... I'll prove 'em wrong.. I've still got the orginal tranny in it! people gripe about that all the time... I've done band adjustments and fluid/filter changes, but thats' it... it's never been unbolted from the engine, which, aside from the water pump, is all original too... the previous and first owner (aka: my step-dad) never even did any of that... the first weekend i had it, i drained the original tranny fluid, replaced the filter, changed the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor (all of those original too), it ran like a new truck... it's still going too, now with about 290,000 miles... last weekend i drove it from my home in east texas to keystone, co. with no problems whatsoever... don't believe me? come see for yourself... i've even raced with it, it runs a 17 flat quarter, which is impressive, given what it is... yeah, and all that on the orignal tranny too... haha...

Ok, I replaced mine about a year ago because it pluged up completely...Are they reembursing people for this? I paid $250 for the part and $50 for install! I want that $300 back.

best thing to do is call the stealership and ask them..and when they say no.. tell them that your lawyer will be calling them... then youll be in to get it fixed or re-embursed.... stealerships hate lawyers

I kinda doubt that articles and reciepts will work, but if you manage to get an official letter stating that, i think they would definately accept it, also press the issue of having them call around on that, it would help too.
