Found Something Interesting Involving Mirror Swaps
I was over at the huge K5 Blazer forum researching 6.2L diesel Blazers. I'm looking into buying an Ex-Military K5 for plowing next year, since my Ramcharger blew a reverse band. Anyway, I saw that they had a link to a site devoted to tow rigs. The idea of a forum dedicated to towing intrigued me so I checked it out. Well, it turns out there really wasn't much there. There was even less for someone like me with a gasser tow rig. But I did find one thing of interest...
Apparently 3rd gen fold-out mirrors work on 98-02 2nd generation Rams. And apparently they're a plug & play ordeal. Not bad I'd say. I wonder if they work on pre-98 Rams as well?
Also, these are the NON-powered versions. I wonder how easy the powered swap would be then, since sometimes having them bolt up is the hardest part. [>:]
*EDIT*
As Ryan pointed out, those are the 2nd gen mirrors. [&:]
RE: Found Something Interesting Involving Mirror Swaps
well he sed the ones he was looking ae were "factory Dodge flip out towing mirrors that were available, but rarely chosen from the factory since they are non power on our 98-02 trucks" not the 3rd gen. did they carry on and use these mirrors on the 3rd gens as well? the ones he is talking about is the towing option ones off a 2nd gen but i dont know if they used the same ones on the 3rd gen. i had looked at putting on 3rd gen mirrors before, my dad wants them on his 01 cummins but i had come to the conclusion that it wasent going to fit... but now youve got me wondering again lol

Those mirrors he's installing there are the 3rd gen mirrors The 2nd gen flip-out mirrors were smaller. That's why he used the 3rd gens
RE: Found Something Interesting Involving Mirror Swaps
Your link doesn't work, since people need to login. But I see what you're saying. I guess he was mis-informing me then. On the towrig site it does say 3rd gen mirrors.
Either way, the links I posted in my last reply prove that the 3rd gen swap is possible....and can even be done on older trucks that didn't have the heated mirror option.
RE: Found Something Interesting Involving Mirror Swaps

I know...sorry for posting the wrong info. I'm gonna email the towrig.com webmaster and have him change the title of the article. [>:]
And that link to the instructions with no pics does sound promising. Too bad towing mirrors aren't at the top of my list [>:] Maybe someone else can give it a try though and let us know how it goes. The power ones are definitely nice, and definitely worth it!
