Default Oil Pressure Woes

Ok so I had the problem of my oil pressure gauge dropping whenever the rpm's would drop and would rise when I accelerated again. Through search of other threads I found the culprit was the oil pressure sending unit...so I replaced but I still ave the problem, just not as often and the oil pressure will rebound on its own without me giving it gas, also the needle will bounce around a bit...what else could be giving me this problem taking into consideration that the sending unit it new?

Stick a mechanical gauge on it.

Do you hear any ticking?

+1 on the mechanical gauge, the OEM oil pressure gauges on these Dodges are worthless.

Another +1 for the mechanical gauge.

It could also be as simple as having the oil pickup junked up.

Okay, so I put a mechanical oil gauge in and at first the pressure was reading fine about 40 psi, then it dropped to just below 20. And wont rise unless I give it some gas then drop again once I let off. The motor has enough oil in it. So where do I go from here?

miles on engine?

to squeeze more life from the engine, drop the oil pan and replace the oil pump with a new "high volume" pump. also clean or replace oil pickup tube. if the rear main seal is leaking, replace it too.

The engine has 147k on it. Ok, so a new oil pump is on the agenda, thanks for the help.
