I'm. in the process of fabbing up a heat shield for my modified stock air box...how good is sheat metal in reflecting heat?

heavy plastic is working ok in directing heat away from the air box but I have to cut and glue fron rubbermate tote boxs...

one large peace of sheet metal or plexiglass is going to easier to fab up arround the coolant, windshield tanks and air box, up tight against a clossed hood..

 

Doesn't really matter. It's gonna get hot air regardless

 

I'm not going to make ambiant air coder but so far I have been able to redirect under hood heat. away from my modified air box, after a hour drive the air box side is not as hot as the deflected side.

my issues are ascetic, as I want to get past trail and error heavy use of duct tape and build a heat shield that looks close to factery. ..

 

well then if I was you I would use heat reflective tape/wrap and 300 or 400 series stainless steel...

The regular sheetmetal you get at Home depot almost always rusts after 1 winter...

My current company's sister company works solely in sheet metal.. and that is the best stuff I can recommend that you work with.

 

304 is bendable

 

Both are bendable... one is just wayyyyyy easier than the other... lol

 

Yes----very true, its just that most don't have access to a brake like a sheet metal shop, there is a 10' at work along with a nice 10' shear.

 

Yeah my work has a few shears, brakes, CNC Lasers, and CNC Punches....plus welders and all kinds of other goodies.. so I'm always set if I need to custom fab something up.
