Default differentials on 98 dodge ram 1500 slt Laramie

Ok I have a 98 dodge ram 1500 SLT quad cab 4x4 with the 5.2L and 5sp manual tranny, it has 3.55 gears, dana 44 front and chrysler 9.25 rear, pretty sure I have an open differential as it seems like my passengers side tires are the only ones that spin in the snow or mud. My question is what is the cheapest but best way to change that so I have all tires moving at the same time. I've seen people that weld something in the differentials, I've people that got lockers and stuff like that. Could I just find axles from another truck and put them on mine or what are my best options?

Sorry if I'm not posting this question in the right place but I've tried to post a reply on other treads and for some reason I can't but it lets me post it here.?.?.?

You should get a build sheet first, http://www.dodge.com/wccsapp/univers...ull&category=R

See if your truck indeed has an open diff or if you have the anti spin rear that's just wore out.

I think clutches can be replaced fairly cheap.

Lunchbox style lockers aren't too expensive, detroit truetrac is a good option too...

Our records do not indicate whether or not your vehicle would be
equipped with the limited slip differential. * Without technical
assistance, due to the age of the vehicle, we would not be able to
further confirm the differential type.

At this time, we would need to direct you to speak with your local Ram
dealership, as they would be more able to assist you with this question.

We apologize the response could not be of more assistance.

Thanks again for your email.

Sincerely,

Jennifer

If it doesn't say it on the sheet, you don't have it. If the diff hasn't been tampered with too badly there will be a little metal tab on it that indicates an LSD.

Says it right here, "***DRBP Corporate 9.25 LD Rear Axle" . No LSD for sure.

Ok, but now you are stretching it . And if it was swapped, the odds a tag is on it are pretty slim.

The best way, but not necessarily the cheapest, would be to install an aftermarket LSD. DO NOT weld up your spider gears if this is a street truck. You can look around at JY's for another 9.25 w/LSD and make decision. If you go with a new diff. probably the most common are Detroit, Yukon or Auburn.

Tag is gone, just lifted the back end and spun the tires. One spins one direction the other one spins the opposite direction, when I turn the drive shaft both tires spin the same and when I hold the drivers side tire the passengers side tire keeps spinning and when I hold the passengers side tire the drivers side keeps spinning.

Yeah, but it's possible. I know around here some folks will just swap the entire axle if theirs has a major issue that needs to be fixed.

That's an open diff.
