Default Engine diesels, misfires when idling or engine braking?

So I know it's a Magnum engine, but I've got a LA ignition system and LA Carter AFB carburettor on it...

When the engine gets warm it diesels when I shut it off. one guy said the heads might have a little carbon on them?

Also, when I engine brake, put the engine under a load, or idle it (idling problem occurs only when warm), it misfires, and it seems to me like it only occurs on one or two cylinders. I know when I dropped the engine in, I pinched two of the spark plug wires, but they DID fire so I figured they were okay, maybe not?

Another guy suggested I run my timing a little more advanced. I'm sitting at 11*, maybe I should try for 15*?

Thanks!

Update: I replaced all my spark plug wires, misfire went away. Still diesels a little bit, but not half as bad.

Thanks go-part!

I think I've got a little carbon in it, maybe my gas is degraded after sitting in the tank for a year, I did have my motor advanced WAAAY too far, that's probably part of it as well... I had the base timing set to 11*, now it's set to 5* seems much better.
