You don't have the "lean burn" system with TBI.

You can add an MSD box & coil that will improve the ignition but you will need to keep the stock distributor.

So what type of ignition engine controll do I have. 318 fuel injected. With the black box behind battery... Truck will mostly run like crap.sometimes very rarely good. But problem is Bogging off line.back fires threw throttle body. Stalls out when slowing down.. Loopy idle will sometimes die. Have replaced coolant temp sensor/ vacum/ fuel lines. Fuel pump / fuel filter/dist cap. Plugs wires. Had it timed at shop. Been to two now couldn't find a problem. Everything seems to be working . Need it fixed its my daily

First thing would be to check the codes and check the fuel pressure at idle and driving. I know you said you replaced the pump but you could possibly have a regulator problem.

I would also check the deflection of the timing gear\chain. When it was timed did they disconnect the coolant temp sensor to set it?

The "black box" behind the battery is the computer.

Yes they unplugged the cts . I watched them do it. And the regulator is on the on pump correct?

Don't throw parts at it until you have tested them and know them to be bad!

It is easy to check the fuel pressure.

Sounds like a fuel/air mixture issue. Backfire through your intake/TB can be caused by a few things. Lets start with free stuff, and work towards more in-depth/expensive.
1- Double check your firing order on your plug wires. Very common after a tune up to get a couple crossed, and have it spark on a cylinder that isn't sealed, thus sending fire through the throttle body.

2- Check your timing. Advanced or retarded timing will cause spark at the incorrect time, thus failing to ignite the fuel appropriately.

3- Check your fuel pressure. A rich system can cause backfire through the TB, whereas lean can cause backfire at the tailpipe. Check these:
A- Fuel filter
B- Regulator
C- Pump

3- A faulty/misreading O2 sensor can cause a lean/rich run cycle.

4- An intake valve stuck open can cause backfire through the TB. Fuel and air does not get properly sealed into cylinder during ignition, causing combustion in the intake.

Hope this is helpful, and I didn't go too in-depth. Good luck.
