A stock unit will be your cheapest but it will also be used. The best would be a Tru Trac from http://www.eaton.com/Eaton/ProductsS...als/PCT_338418

But this isn't cheap either but it is worth every penny.

I have a Yukon Dura Grip in mine. I like the way it performs, $436 at the time I bought it. The price jumped from ~$330 when I put one in my 9.25 about 2 yrs. ago to now. I don't think there is any such thing as cheap anymore. Most companies have shifted from selling a good product at a fair price to making maximum profit. Just decide what you want and shop around. There won't be any price difference on a lot of things. I did get a master install kit with Timken bearings from Jegs for about half the price that Yukon was selling them for so it pays to look around.
Yukon has two versions, one for high ratio gears, one for low ratio gears. Whatever you get, just be sure to match the gears to the right carrier, or vice versa.

Yes & No, A D44 from a new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is not the same animal as the D44 that is in the front of your truck. The thing you have to worry about is which carrier will work in your axle.

Any of those will work just fine but I'm sure as an experienced mechanic that you are you knew this already.

I've got a True-Trac in the rear of my 96 1500 and I love it. I'll be putting one in the front within the next few months (and changing the gears to 4.10 to go with some new 33" tires).
