Temporary Withdrawl From Forum
Hey guys, I am officially out of the forum. At least for a little while.
George was totaled on Friday afternoon in Madrid NY.
We were on our way to camp and hike in the Adirondacks with 24 Scouts/Venturers and 9 Adults. I was third in a convoy of 7 vehicles.
Stopped at a stop sign, the first two went through, I stopped, looked both ways, even leaned forward over the dash to get a better look. Nothing! Next thing I know I am looking at the frame of a GM pickup and everyone is screaming.
NO ONE hurt! Three kids in my backseat, another shot-gun. Two 17 year-olds in the GM. Worst injury I think was some seat belt burn and my 240/120 BP.
My wife already had a stack of "for-sale" pages ready when I got home last night. I'll be back!

I'll answer all in one post, saves ******* paper. (ok, why won't it let me put v i r t u a l?)
I'm not really going anywhere, and I think I've already found the replacement. It just depends on what the Ins. Co. decides is the equivalent value.
It was my fault, I left a stop sign (other road was a through road) without it being clear to do so. One of the other leaders has already phoned the town hall to complain that it should be a 4-way.
They were going WAY too fast! I estimate 50 in a 30 zone, but I haven't done the physics calculations. The leaders behind thought faster, based on them coming out of nowhere. You can see where they first impacted just above the left-front wheel, and they climbed my truck and rolled on their side. In other pictures you can see where they dug into the asphalt about mid-way across the other north-bound lane - they were south-bound.
They were 17 year-old-boys doing what 17 year-old boys do. They were on their way home from school, probably to celebrate the driver's 17th birthday, and they were testing out his "new" truck. It bit them, and us, in the behind, and hopefully changed how they do things from here on in. My insurance will pay for their truck (and mine), but we all walked away without a scratch and you can't get luckier than that!
I am trying to figure out what I could have done differently, but I really think that I looked long and hard up the road and saw nothing. But I will look a little longer and harder from here on in.
State Trooper said that the ticket was the least he could give me and he had to give me something! Fine will likely be $120, which is cheap compared to 6 kids' lives.
