What would cause steering wheel shifter to move freely from gear to gear?
I can move the shifter to any gear without any effort. Car drives fine other than that. The normal "pull the shift lever back and then move to the next gear procedure" is not needed. At WOT the engine movement alone can move the shifter out of gear.
What could this be? Linkage? How can I diagnose and fix it?
To me this sounds like the shift lever detent ball and it's spring is broken, these are found inside the trany. I could be way off on this more will chime in soon.
