Default Fuel level for fuel pump

I replaced my fuel pump about 1k miles ago. I've since kept the fuel level no lower than a quarter. I was wondering how low I can go before damaging the pump for the long run?

I personally don't think it matters. The fuel splashes around anyway. Plus we are getting into the colder months. The sending unit might be more affected than anything else. Put some MMO in the tank once in a while. More importantly is what brand did you replace with?

Marvel Mystery Oil. And the quality of the pump is directly related to how long it lasts, not the fuel level ,IMO. Mopar,Denso, Delphi are the recommended choices.

I never thought of MMO in the tank! I've heard of running it low causes the pump to suck in air instead of gas thus making it burn out

The problem with fuel level, as it relates to pumps, is that the pump is cooled by the fuel. So, at lower fuel levels, more of the pump is exposed, and doesn't get cooled as well it would like. You would have to run it at below a quarter tank for quite a while before it actually starts causing a problem though.

The MMO will help the sending unit, not to mention it can be a benefit to the motor itself. (Fuel system)
