I have a 2000 Dodge dakota, 4.7L, 4x4, auto trans.

I am trying to figure out what this sensor is? I was under the truck today and noticed the screw was missing.

The sensor is on the passenger side of the truck, front of the motor, from underneath.

can anyone identify it?

 

don't know what the sensor is but the screw holds the sensor on there so to not leak fluid. judgeing from the fluid on the sensor connection maybe a oil temp sensor??

Hey I looked at this thread and I had no idea... I was staring at the metal housing it was attached to and still couldn't get it lol.

Then Dakaz comes in and says its a Crank position sensor... MINE LOOKS LIKE THIS:

Just checked yes that's for the 3.9 he has the 4.7

 

The location is "wrong" for the crank position sensor. He says "front" of the engine. The CPS is over the starter, just under a freeze plug, on the rear (tranny) side of the engine.

Can you widen out the picture a bit?

That looks nothing like my CMP. I can see that through the wheel well.

 

I now think its the Camshaft Position Sensor not the crank sensor

thanks for the replies. I found a bolt that threaded in to hold it in place. Could this be the cause of the dreaded "no bus" issue i have been fighting?

I just ordered a ECU yesterday before I found this sensor.
