cold air intake

The way I see it, the cold air intake doesn't help at all besides taking away any restrictions that the factory air hat has. If you are looking to get more air through, save your money and put a 14x3 on it. I have heard that the Hughes FI Airgap can help double your MPGs in the reviews but I have yet to see it personally.

^ I'm with these two.
Whilst I have the K&N CAI, I agree that the key part is the low restriction element... if you have that, there is no real additional again to be had by upgrading.
I got about 1.25 MPG gain, and a could feel a little more get up and go.
If you had no gains at all from freeing up the intake a little, I would suspect there is something else restricting flow (in/out)... a clogged cat maybe?

Don't get me wrong, I like the FI-Airgap, but it needs to be paired with other mods to get usable benefits.

I'm just curious, will a normal, round, chrome air cleaner work on these 318's and 360's?
I don't think this truck has ever had it's air filter changed, it only has 78,000 miles, but still. I ask because I have a nice JEGS 14x3 chrome air cleaner I got as a gift last year.
Also it would look a ton better than that plastic crap.

Any gain in MPG from the FI-Airgap was very minimal (maybe negative), but this could be partially due to other mods at the same time, or driving harder to get to the high RPM that the added power is at.

So the last sort of bolt on for you to gain back so to speak is the 1.7rr's I am looking forward to what you see and find out.

It will work just fine as long as you either plug the stock valve cover breather into the 14x3 or buy an aftermarket stand-alone breather. Also you will need to buy or make one of these.
You will hear a difference under the hood especially at WOT
